It’s way too easy to call yourself a writer these days.

I mean, anybody can write about how they feel. Anybody could narrate their sad stories and make it sound deep. Anybody can rhyme a couple of meaningless words together and call it poetry. Something that not anybody can do, however, is transfer emotion. If you’re going to call yourself a writer you should do more than just write about your oh so shitty life.

Writing isn’t about stating your story or point, it’s about making the reader forget who they are and tricking their way into becoming you. It’s about creating an escape both for you and your audience. It’s about sharing your every detail, feeling, even the slightest tingle at the tip of your toe. It’s not just about writing sad poems and making people feel bad for you. It’s much more than that and if you can’t understand that, then you’re obviously not doing it for the right reasons.
